The Mid-Prairie School Board has approved more early outs for the fall semester to give teachers adequate time to meet with quarantined students. Through the first six weeks of school, no early outs were used due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Superintendent Mark Schneider made the recommendation to the school board at last week’s meeting to make every Wednesday from October 21 till the end of the semester a 90-minute early out instead of holding two-hour early outs every two weeks. November 25 and December 23, the days before Thanksgiving and winter break, will remain two-hour early outs.

This will give teachers opportunities to attend to additional responsibilities and challenges attributed to COVID-19, like meeting with quarantined students or working ahead. Schneider believes the winter season could bring more health challenges, and this schedule change could help teachers with scheduling conflicts and challenges. This early out schedule will be reevaluated by the school board and administration after winter break concludes.
