While the winter season isn’t yet here, Car Doctor Manager Katie Rodriguez believes it’s never too early to start winterizing your vehicle. This can include checking your wiper blades, car battery, window seals, and tires and replacing them if needed. Rodriguez recommends individuals take care of their vehicles just like they do their own bodies, “Based on how vehicles work, we recommend that people let their vehicles warm up first. If you have your car sitting overnight, everything is relaxed so when you turn it on first thing in the morning it’s like when we get out of bed. We need a little bit of time to get going and warm up. A vehicle is the same way, you need to get that oil through the entire system and let it go through the entire engine to lubricate everything so it’s nice and hot. If you just turn it on and take off you don’t give the oil enough time to get through everything and it causes more friction internally.” Rodriguez says to keep blankets, a flashlight, tire gauge, and other winter essentials in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Taking extra time in the morning to check up on your vehicle can prevent accidents and give your car time to warm up and work properly during the coldest times of the year.
