Drought conditions in Iowa have increased slightly from last week to this week according to the National Drought Mitigation Center. An estimated 1.3 million Iowans are in drought areas with 4.5% of the state in extreme drought, nearly 35% in severe drought, 47.34% in moderate drought, and almost 73% of the state is abnormally dry.
The western half of Washington County is abnormally dry, along with most of Iowa and Jefferson Counties. The southwestern corner of Iowa County is in moderate drought. All of Keokuk County is experiencing drought conditions with most of the county abnormally dry and the northwestern corner in moderate drought.
