An investigation is underway into illegal meat sales happening in Wellman. Jason Taylor with Washington County Environmental Health told the county’s Board of Health at their recent meeting that his department is working alongside the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) on the case. He said it began back in July after a Facebook post.

Two search warrants were executed on Wednesday in the 900 block and 1000 block of Circle Drive in Wellman. The Washington Sheriff’s Department assisted IDALS with the searches.

Taylor said over 130 pounds of smoked meat was taken and there were also violations for fish and cheese products. He said there were multiple code issues. No charges have yet been filed, but the investigation is ongoing.
