Fishing across southeast Iowa has seen a large amount of returning and new anglers according to a local fisheries biologist. Chad Dolan with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says with the colder weather, the fish are starting to come up shore more in order to feed and gain weight for the harsh winter. This gives anglers an opportunity to have successful fishing days during the fall season. Dolan says he’s seen plenty more people going out and fishing as a socially distant activity, “I’ve really observed just a lot more people getting out enjoying the outdoors. It’s a great place to really socially distance. You can get out to the park and go fishing, go hiking, and really be apart from everyone else. A lot of people that maybe haven’t participated in fishing for a while, this gave them the opportunity to get out and try.” He encourages people to visit iowadnr.com to see the latest fishing conditions in the local area and for anglers at their favorite fishing spots.
