Staff at the Washington Public Library are getting into the Halloween spirit and have developed socially distant ways for patrons to join in the fun. Decorate pumpkins, read festive stories, and test your knowledge.
Librarian Jenisa Harris has developed a trivia night based on the movie Hocus Pocus, “I have about 70 questions that I came up with Some will be easy and some will be a little bit more challenging.” The free family trivia night will start at 6:30 p.m. Saturday via Zoom. To sign up contact the library.
Librarian Jolisa Weidner is overseeing the Festival of the Pumpkins, “Well, we’ve had some that are connected to books or they just kind of match them to a story possibly that they’ve read, so that’s always fun to do it that way. But if they choose to do it more creatively, that is absolutely fine, too.” Painted and decorated pumpkins that are submitted will be placed on display in the library’s front windows for the public to view.
Another opportunity to enjoy the fall season is with a Read Around the Square pumpkin story. Start at the library’s window and read the first page of the picture book, then follow the story in participating businesses’ windows. Make a lap of the square and read the book along the way, it will be up through the end of the month.
Participating businesses in the Read Around the Square: Wolf Floral, Country Market, Dodici Shop, Browns Shoes, Earthly Blessings, KCTC, Latta Harris, Bordwell Abstract, The Village, Simply Spa, Taste of China, Ameriprise, Jaz It Up, and State Farm Insurance.
