Van Horne is the destination tonight for the Washington volleyball team, as they open the class 4A regionals with a bout against Benton Community. 

The Demons are 4-19, but have seen improvement winning four of their last seven including a four set victory over Columbus on Thursday. Olivia Marek leads the offense with 113 kills and Remy Messinger sets up most of the offense with 162 assists while Emma Nichols has 107. Keira Messinger leads the Southeast Conference with 358 digs and Marek’s 32 solo blocks is also at the top of the league. 

The Bobcats are 10-24 and placed sixth in the WaMaC-West division. Grace Embretson is a player to look out for with 210 kills and the junior also leads the team in assists with 233. She also gets it done defensively with a team-high 185 digs and Olivia Janss has 142. 

This is the first meeting between these two schools since 2014. 

Round one gets underway at 7 p.m. tonight at Benton Community High School. The winner advances to face Western Dubuque (22-10) on Thursday.
