The Lone Tree football team makes a trip to Montezuma tonight for the second round of 8-man playoffs.

Lone Tree (4-3) got by Winfield Mt-Union last week in the first round winning 66-36 including out scoring the Wolves 38-0 in the second half. Their offense couldn’t be stopped and Alex Viner led the way with 110 rushing yards. The defense was led by Cade Shield and Tyler Bell who both had nine tackles. Montezuma had a first round bye after finishing the season 7-0. These two teams have faced each other once before in the final game of the regular season where Montezuma won 62-24. In that game Lone Tree combined for 323 total offensive yards while Montezuma combined for 595. Lone Tree’s offense was led by Will Hotz with 41 rushing yards while Montezuma’s Eddie Burgess had 211. The Lions defense was led by Hotz with 8.5 tackles and Burgess had 12.5 for the Braves.

Lone Tree Head Coach Aaron Bohr tells KCII Sports that there are many things to change from the last game. “We just got to do everything better than we did last time. We confused our blocking assignments a little bit on offense and we tried to go on different snap counts from time to time which didn’t work out. We need to be more disciplined and sustain drives. The one thing about Montezuma is when they are on offense they are almost impossible to stop. We need to be on point and make sure to have our guys in the right spots. We know they are going to score, but we have to make sure to eliminate those big plays.”

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. tonight in Montezuma.
