A woman wanted out of Washington County for assault on persons in certain occupations after dragging a police officer when trying to flee this summer was arrested in Texas on Tuesday. According to the Washington County Communications Office, the Texas State Patrol arrested 42-year-old Mary Bella Brooks of Des Moines. She was wanted on a local warrant for assault on persons in certain occupations with use or display of a weapon, assault while participating in a felony, interference with official acts with a dangerous weapon, theft in the second degree, interference with official acts inflicting bodily injury, and leaving the scene of an accident with an injury. Bond was set at $50,000 cash only. Extradition arrangements are being made.
On August 2nd, a Washington Police Officer stopped a vehicle Brooks was driving in Washington. The officer asked Brooks to exit the car after learning the vehicle was stolen from Des Moines. She refused and drove away, dragging the officer with the vehicle. Bodycam footage released by the police department, showed the officer being dragged and calling for help. He told her to stop the car and let him go. The officer received minor injuries. During the traffic stop, Brooks had provided false information of her identity.
She abandoned the black car and then allegedly stole an SUV from Washington and left the area. The SUV was later recovered in Des Moines.
