Three senior 4-H members have received the I Dare You Award. The award that recognizes personal integrity, balanced living, and potential for leadership was presented Taylor Brinning, Roy Carter, and Isaac Black. They received them at the scaled-down annual award ceremony held by Washington County 4-H.
Amy Green, Washington County 4-H/Youth Coordinator described the award, “That is kind of the peak of your 4-H career award that you can earn. And traditionally we offer that to two of our 10th, 11th, or 12th graders and this year after interviews and applications the committee said, ‘We just can’t decide. There’s three who are clearly leaps and bounds amazing individuals at their age.’ I’m always impressed with their talents, leadership, and creativity. And so this year that honor went to three of our seniors.”
Green explained the award was first offered by the late William H. Danforth in 1941. He was the founder of the Ralston Purina Company in St. Louis and he challenged young people to influence others through service, “It kind of has a neat story. The I Dare You Award is a nationally recognized award and this particular author was kind of challenged by a teacher at one point in his life, kind of dared to really live. Dared to step out of your comfort zone. Dared to be something amazing. And that’s exactly what these three are – Taylor, Isaac, and Roy are just awesome and haven’t ever slowed down or turned away from something when it was a little bit hard. So, we were excited to recognize them with that.”
Black is a member of the Highlanders 4-H Club. Brinning is a member of the Prairie Pride 4-H Club. Carter is a member of the Jackson Jets 4-H Club. All three are also members of the 4-H County Council.
