Chalk up another Washington athlete that will be competing at the next level, as softball standout Cara Linnenkamp put pen to paper on Wednesday her intentions to play at Southeastern Community College in Burlington next year.

The senior has been a three-year varsity player as a pitcher and infielder. As a sophomore she led the Southeast Conference in ERA and this past summer carried a bulk of the load in the circle with 97 innings pitched and a 4.75 ERA. She led the team in RBI with 26 and managed a .455 on base percentage.

Linnenkamp tells KCII Sports why becoming a Blackhawk seemed like the right fit. “I have been talking to the coaches for a while and it just feels like an inclusive environment there. When I went on a recruiting visit all of the players and professors were welcoming so it all felt really comfortable and natural.”

This past college season was cancelled due to COVID-19, but the Blackhawks are coming off of a strong 2019 campaign where they went 32-20 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. Linnenkamp plans to major in elementary education and get her coaching authorization.
