holiday-lighted-parade-2019-2

Register now to take part in the 26th annual lighted holiday parade in downtown Washington. Main Street Washington will again be hosting the parade, but with a few changes to increase safety as the coronavirus pandemic continues. No candy or other materials should be thrown out from floats to bystanders. In an effort to provide people more space to spread out to observe the floats, the parade route has been expanded by a couple of blocks. Observers and participants alike are encouraged to wear a face mask or scarf over their mouth and nose to prevent the spread of the virus. Main Street Washington Director Sarah Grunewaldt encourages people to get or make decorative masks for the holiday event.

She explains anyone can be in the holiday parade – community groups, businesses, families – there are just two requirements, “It can be a car, you could be walking, you could be with a truck and trailer, it just have to have Christmas lights or holiday lights on it. It has to be lit up. And we ask that you not use a representation of Santa or Mrs. Claus on your float. You can have reindeer, and elves, and all of the other Christmas characters, snowmen, whatever you want, but no Santa or Mrs. Claus. We reserve that right for Santa to close out the parade for us.”

It is free to be in the parade. Registration is due by November 20th, to register click here.

The KCII Big Red Radio will be covered in lights and taking part in the annual Washington event. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 28th.
