Two people were injured after a Honda Civic hit a tractor stopped on Highway 1 on Saturday evening. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the wreck happened at 5:33 p.m. on Highway 1 where a tractor with an auger implement attached was stopped to turn left onto 140th Street. A Honda Civic crested the hill and struck the tractor causing total damage to both the car and the tractor.

The car was driven by Michael Weaver of Kalona. The tractor was driven by a juvenile. Weaver and a passenger were transported to the University of Iowa Hospital by ambulance. The parent of the juvenile driver declined further medical attention.

Officers determined that the flashers and turning signals of the tractor were not operational and it did not have a light or slow-moving vehicle triangle. Charges are pending the completion of the investigation.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Washington County Ambulance, Kalona QRS, and the Kalona Fire Department.
