An uptick in wins for the Winfield-Mt. Union football team in 2020 meant an uptick in postseason recognition, as seven players were recently named to all district teams for 8-player district 4.
Three players headlined the selections being named to the first team in Cam Buffington, Chance Malone, and Jack Jennings. The freshman Buffington broke out for the fourth most rushing yards in the league with 956 and his 17 rushing scores also ranked fourth. He reached the end zone 22 times altogether and did damage defensively with 51 tackles. Seniors Malone and Jennings anchored an offensive line that paved the way for 2,025 rushing yards. Malone was first on the team in tackles with 54 and Jennings was third with 31.
Second team selections included Bryce Wade and Noah Sparrow. Wade was also a part of the offensive line and recorded 22 tackles on the other side. Sparrow reached pay dirt three times and had 211 rushing yards. Honorable mention selections include Seth Schurr and Abram Edwards. Schurr had 26 tackles including three for a loss and Edwards combined for 350 yards of total offense with three touchdowns.
WMU finished the season with a 4-4 record.
