It has been over two calendar years since the OABCIG football team has been in the loss column, but Sigourney-Keota is looking to change that Saturday when the two meet up for a class 1A semifinal in Cedar Falls.

The Falcons are coming off of a program’s first state title in 2019 where they finished a perfect 13-0 in class 2A. Fast forward to 2020, now in class 1A, and the Falcons find themselves in a similar situation with a 10-0 mark and ranked #1. If the #3 ranked Cobras are going to knock OABCIG off the thrown, they will have to contain do-it-all quarterback Cooper Dejean. The Iowa Hawkeye recruit that checks in at 6’2’’ 197 lbs has registered over 8,600 yards of total offense for the Falcons in his two years under center and is leading numerous categories this year.  Dejean’s 4,058 all purpose yards including 2,718 through the air leads class 1A and no one has reached the end zone more with 51 touchdowns he has been responsible for. The senior has completed 164 of 270 passes with 27 scores through the air to just seven interceptions. He is also OABCIG’s leading rusher with 1,089 yards including 10.2 per rush. Dejean is the leading punt returner with a couple taken back to the house and as a defensive back has compiled 40 tackles with a pair of interceptions.

Sigourney-Keota junior Cade Molyneux tells KCII Sports preparations in practice has been centered around slowing down the all state quarterback. “He is probably the most athletic player I have ever seen. He is really quick and can throw the ball really well. He is great at everything and will be the biggest challenge for our team.”

The game Saturday gets underway at 12:30 p.m. at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. Listen to all of the action on AM 1380 FM 102.5 FM 106.1 KCII starting at noon.
