The City of Wapello and the City of Wellman are among 25 Iowa municipalities who will see savings on water quality projects thanks to a reduction in their interest rates on their current State Revolving Fund loans.  The Iowa Finance Authority and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources announced the projects across the state as a whole will see savings of $12 million in interest over the life of the loans after interest rates were reduced from three percent to 1.75 percent. That means a savings of over $34,000 for the City of Wapello and a savings of over $221,000 for the City of Wellman. The State Revolving Fund is one of Iowa’s primary sources for financing projects designed to improve Iowa’s water quality. Two funds, one for drinking water and one for wastewater and pollution control, have provided low-cost financing to projects in nearly 700 Iowa communities in addition to farmers, watershed groups and others for water quality projects.
