The 18th Annual KCII Caring Christmas Food Drive is underway with a new look. KCII General Manager Joe Nichols explains how people can donate to this year’s food drive, “So we have changed that up a little bit this year. I mean with the COVID-19 pandemic we know there are more people in need of help, but there’s also more people wanting to help out. We’re not going to have food boxes and donation spots, or cash boxes like we may have had in years past, but what we have done is we’ve got table toppers at our sponsors and it’s got a QR code on it that is super easy that anybody can figure out. If you have a smartphone and it’s got a camera, open up the camera and put it over the QR code and it opens up a tab, and you can make a donation safely through our Square.”
All donations will go to food pantries in the KCII-listening area. The pantries will then be able to use those funds to purchase the items they need. People can also make donations by purchasing pre-bagged food items at the registers of your Washington Hy-Vee.
The KCII Cash Call Sweepstakes is also taking part live on air through the holidays. Nichols shares KCII is giving away $2,000 over a five-week period, and the grand prize is $1,000, “You can also register online, so this is something that’s different as well. On our website, if you get on the Caring Christmas portion of it we’ve got a couple of big red buttons. One is where you can make a donation to the food drive and the other is to get registered for a chance at the $1,000 grand prize that we’ll have.”
People can also qualify for a chance to win the grand prize by being an on-air caller with a chance to spin the wheel to win cash live on air, or by being an instant qualifier who registers at the KCII Big Red Radio at live broadcasts this holiday season.
