See the KCII Big Red Radio Wednesday at your Washington HyVee as you get your final ingredients for your favorite Thanksgiving Day recipes. The Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live from 2-5 p.m. as part of the KCII Caring Christmas Program.
KCII General Manager Joe Nichols shares the program has been running for nearly two decades, “The one part that’s been the steady Eddie from the beginning is our food drive, that’s kind of what started this whole thing 18 years ago now. So, that’s the first part, and we also have our Cash Call Sweepstakes. So, we also like to give away some money during the holidays and have a grand prize winner. It’s one of those things, it’s nice to give but it’s also nice to receive, so we’re able to do both with this idea.”
Nichols adds that the food drive has a few changes this year, “With the COVID-19 pandemic we know there are more people in need of help, but there’s also more people wanting to help out. We’re not going to have food boxes and donations spots, or cash boxes like we may have had in years past, but what we have done is we’ve got table toppers at our sponsors and it’s got a QR code on it that is super easy that anybody can figure out. If you have a smartphone and it’s got a camera, open up the camera and put it over the QR code and it opens up a tab, and you can make a donation safely through our Square.” Donations can also be made online here.
All donations will go to food pantries in the KCII-listening area. People can also make donations by purchasing pre-bagged food items at the registers of your Washington Hy-Vee.
Stop by and see the KCII Big Red Radio on Wednesday for your chances to enter the prize contest and to donate to those in need.
