The YMCA building originally built in 1924 in downtown Washington will soon be on the market. The YMCA of Washington County board of directors approved engaging with Elliott Realty Group to begin marketing the YMCA building at 121 East Main Street. The building had two major additions in 1965 and 1983.
The sale of the building is the next step toward Phase II of the YMCA building project that will replace the 96-year-old indoor pool. CEO of the YMCA of Washington County Amy Schulte said, “Our dream for the building would be to see the space renovated for a new purpose to be able to continue to serve the Washington community.” She shared they just completed $4,250 in repairs to the pool.
The facility has been shown to three developers over the past year by Washington City Administrator Brent Hinson and former WEDG director David Collins.
Schulte says the recommendation from Elliott Realty is to list the property at $8 per square foot for a total price tag of $309,000. Schulte explains this is significantly below typical commercial property listings because the building was constructed with a specific purpose.
