Out of 396 football players in the state of Iowa that were named all state selections only one of them was playing middle school ball last fall and that athlete resides in Southeast Iowa.
Cam Buffington of Winfield-Mt. Union was the only freshman across all classes that was picked as an all state selection released by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association. The 6’2 185 lbs back was named to the third team in 8-Player as a punter. Buffington had 18 boots with a 31.8 yard average, but punting was one of many hats the freshman took on this year. He finished fourth in district four in rushing with 956 yards and reached pay dirt 17 times. He threw for a pair of touchdowns and had a couple receiving scores. The linebacker also led the team defensively with 50.5 tackles and one interception.
Buffington led the Wolves to their most wins in five seasons finishing with a 4-4 record.
