Head coach Pete Cavanagh and the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football staff recently announced their team awards for the 2020 season.

Golden Hawk Offensive MVP was senior running back Kayden Reinier. He was a first team all-district selection and finished seventh in all of 2A with 1,271 yards on 151 carries. His 17 touchdowns were third most in the state.

Defensive MVP was split between Josh Wallington and Justice Jones. Wallington, a senior, was a first-team all-district selection on the defensive line. He had 28 and a half tackles on the season, 18 solo, eight tackles for loss and a sack and a half. Jones, a junior, was a first team all-district pick at linebacker. Jones led Mid-Prairie with 69 tackles on the season, eighth most in 2A. That includes 42 solo stops and 10 and a half tackles for loss with an interception.

Special Teams MVP was Jake Swartzendruber. He finished a perfect 33 of 33 in extra points for the season. That number was best in the state in all classes for someone without a miss this season. His 33 extra points were sixth most in Iowa in 2A. Swartzendruber punted 15 times for a 34 yard average per kick.

Three seniors were selected for the Attitude and Effort Award including Michael Kelly, Nathan Quinby and Joe Allred. Quinby and Kelly were honorable mention all-district picks this season. Quinby had 16 and a half stops defensively with one interception. Kelly had 20 tackles on the year, 14 solo and nine tackles for loss. Allred added three tackles and was named the 2020 Nick Peck Weightlifter of the Year.

Junior Gannon Callahan was named Lineman of the Year. He was a first team all-district selection along the offensive line. He was part of a group that helped pave the way for the Mid-Prairie offense which finished ninth in the state with 3,042 total yards this season.

Senior Ben Meader and junior Tyler Helmuth were co-12th men of the year. Meader was a second team all-district selection. He put together a season with 21 and a half tackles, five tackles for loss and two and a half sacks. Helmuth had 20 carries for 204 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His 10.2 yard per carry average was third best in all of 2A for backs with at least 20 carries. Defensively, he recorded six tackles and a fumble recovery.

Senior Clarke Latcham was honored as the Addison Powell Student Athlete of the Year. Latcham was one of 13 Golden Hawks to earn academic all-district honors in 2020. He finished the season with 13 catches for 248 yards and a pair of touchdowns, five carries for 91 yards and another score while posting seven and a half tackles on defense. He was a second team all-district pick.

Captains for the 2020 team were Vinnie Bowlin, Reinier and Wallington. The Golden Hawks finished with a 4-4 overall record.
