Continuing to roll is what the Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ basketball team did on Tuesday, as they stayed unbeaten by traveling to Packwood and downing Pekin 36-19.
The Wolves’ defense held the Panthers to shoot just 17.6% from the floor including one of 13 from long range. Up 9-5 after one, the next two quarters WMU outscored Pekin 26-4 to put the game on ice. Bradie Buffington led the way with 10 points and five block shots while Jobey Malone added eight points. Kyndal Townsley collected nine rebounds, Jenna Buffington had five steals, and Keely Malone dished out four assists. The Wolves improve to 3-0 and host Danville tomorrow.
It was the opener for the WMU boys and Pekin had their number with the final score being 76-46. Freshman Abram Edwards had a solid debut for the Wolves with 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Cam Buffington collected 10 points and Bryce Wade had seven. WMU falls to 0-1 and they host Van Buren on Saturday.
