The wrestling season commenced for Columbus Community on Tuesday and the Wildcats had little trouble in the opening dual against Mount Pleasant winning 58-24 on the road.

Columbus Community, who also shares a wrestling agreement with area schools Winfield-Mt. Union and Lone Tree, won five of six contested matches on the night including four pins. Lane Scorpil picked up right where he left off last year with a pin in 1:12 at 113 lbs, Will Hotz made quick work of his opponent in 41 seconds at 170 lbs, Trent Wilkerson created a fall in 1:48 at 195 lbs, and Kai Malone pinned his opponent in 3:03 at 220 lbs. The lone decision in the dual was Triston Miller at 126 lbs winning by a 14-6 count.

Co-head coach Joel Keller tells KCII Sports what his team did well on opening night. “The goal was to be able to penetrate hips and keep our knees off the mat on shots to work our way through people. We were able to consistently do that and keep constant motion. That helped turn several matches into pins for us.”

The Wildcats start up the campaign 1-0 and travel to Wapello on Saturday for a tournament.
