The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams are back in action and back in conference play Friday when they travel to Tipton to meet the Tigers. The Golden Hawk girls are 1-1 on the year after a win over Durant and loss to Williamsburg to start the season. Last time out the Hawks fell to the Raiders on the road 60-48 despite 20 points from Phelan Hostetler. On the year, Hostetler leads Mid-Prairie at 12 points per game. Myah Lugar and Maddie Nonnenmann share the team lead with eight rebounds per game each and Lugar has dished out four assists per game.
Tipton comes into the night with an overall record of 0-1. The Tigers dropped their game at Regina Tuesday 61-44. Alex Hoffman had 15 points and Rachel Biermann 13 to lead the Tigers. The Tigers and the Hawks met twice last season with Mid-Prairie winning 35-28 in Wellman and the Tigers defending their home court 46-41.
The Mid-Prairie boys enter play in search of their first win on the season after losing a lead late at Williamsburg Tuesday and dropping the contest 74-70. The Golden Hawks were led by Carter Harmsen’s career high 36 points. Alex Bean added 16 and Ethan Kos 10. Will Cavanagh dished out 10 assists and he and Harmsen pulled in 10 rebounds. Tipton is 1-0 on the season after squeaking out a 49-46 win at Regina Tuesday. Bob Ryan led the Tigers with 11 points. These two teams met twice a year ago with the Tigers sweeping the Hawks 57-48 in Wellman and 63-60 on their home court. The doubleheader starts with the girls game tonight at six in Tipton.
