The Lone Tree School District has conducted 100% virtual learning since returning from its Thanksgiving break.
The Lone Tree School Board met Wednesday night to review how online learning has fared thus far. Superintendent Ken Crawford says they’ve been encouraged by the results, especially from a student-attendance standpoint, “We like what we see and I think it’s a good thing our principles said their secretaries, if someone is not checking in, they’ve spent a lot of time on the phone the first three days calling parents and kids to [see] where they’re at, is there an internet issue, what can they do to help if they’re not online. That personal contact has been fantastic for them.”
Crawford says if students do have internet access issues at home, the district has opened the cafeterias for students to come in to use the school Wi-Fi while maintaining safe social distancing.
Lone Tree’s waiver for online student learning expires December 11. Crawford says it’s too early to tell if students will return to onsite classrooms after that and the school board will likely make that determination when they meet again Wednesday, December 9.
