The first girl/boy doubleheader of the season for the Keota basketball teams was on Friday with the Eagles splitting the two games at Belle Plaine.
The Eagle boys brought the defensive intensity that led to a 63-30 victory including outscoring the Plainsmen 24-8 in the second quarter to lead by 24 at the break. Belle Plaine was held to just 30% shooting from the floor compared to Keota’s 43%. Seniors Luke Hammen and Carson Sprouse each went off offensively with 19 points a piece to lead all scorers. Hammen also dished out seven assists and Sprouse created four steals. Brady Duwa added nine points and six rebounds.
Despite a 27-point outing from Taylor Kindred, the Eagle girls were on the short end of a 54-47 affair. The junior connected on 11 of 16 shots and hauled in seven boards to go along with her game-high 27 points. Sky Weber added seven points and Bailey Sieren had six.
The Eagle boys improve to 2-0 while the girls drop to 0-2. Both squads get back at it tomorrow hosting Tre-County.
