The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team is back inside the friendly confines of Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman tonight as they welcome Monticello and Iowa City Regina for a River Valley Conference triangular. The Golden Hawks have a 3-3 duel record coming in to night and are fresh off of a sixth place finish Saturday at the Jeremy Fulk Classic at New London. Over the weekend, the Golden Hawks were led by Mose Yoder, who captured his first career tournament championship at 113lbs. Last year at this event, Mid-Prairie beat Regina 52-21 and fell to Monticello 48-36.
Regina comes into tonight with an overall record of 2-0, opening the season with duel wins over Bellevue and Cascade last Thursday. The Regals have one ranked wrestler in their lineup with Aidan Udell at No. 6 at 170lbs according to the latest rankings from thepredicament.com. Monticello is also 2-0 at this point in the season, opening a week ago with wins over Camanche and Durant. The Panthers have one ranked wrestler in their lineup with Kain Luensman sixth at 138lbs. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Justin Garvey talked about getting ready for the Panthers and Regals. “Monticello has got a young up-and-coming team. They have a lot of numbers coming in. Guys I have seen growing up through kids club. They may not be as battle tested because they are young but they’ll be ready to go. They have a full lineup so we need to fill ours up and go out and win matches. They have been on the rise for the last couple years and I full expect to see that on Thursday. Iowa City Regina is down numbers wise this year from previous years but they do bring some tough individuals. We’ll have to see where they fall in the lineup.”
Action starts tonight at 6p.m. at Mid-Prairie High School.
