Students in the Winfield-Mount Union School District have until tomorrow (Dec. 18) to apply for online only learning for the Spring semester starting after the Christmas break.

Superintendent Jeff Maeder says any student from kindergarten to 12th grade interested in online only can submit an application, but they’ve seen that online learning isn’t the best option for every student, “You have to really be focused, even more so, to stay on track to get your classes done on time. Some students are more successful at that than others. Those that aren’t can get themselves in a real bind if they’re not passing a class and having to take that class over again.”

Maeder says the district offered the program at the start of the school year as an option for parents concerned about their students attending classes in-person during the pandemic. The district as a whole has held 100% onsite learning since the school year began, although they conducted a district-wide “Virtual Day” practice run on November 23.
