The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team will be on the mat for their final tournament before the holiday break today when the boys travel to Central DeWitt and the girls go to Wilton. The Mid-Prairie boys squad has an overall duel record of 4-6 on the season after splitting a pair of duels Thursday at Mount Pleasant with a 45-34 win over the Panthers and a 54-30 loss to Fort Madison. In their last tournament, the Golden Hawks won the team title at their home Colton Allen Memorial Invitational last weekend led by Cael Garvey with the title at 195lbs and Josh Wallington with a championship at 220lbs. Joining the Golden Hawks at Central DeWitt today are Bellevue, Camanche, Clinton, Creston, Maquoketa, Maquoketa Valley, Midland, North Scott, Northeast Goose Lake, West Delaware, Wilton and the homestanding Sabres. Action starts at 9a.m. And continues all day at Central DeWitt High School.
The Mid-Prairie girls will attend a separate tournament at Wilton today. The Hawks last action was part of a girls and junior varsity event Monday of this week in Wellman. Sarah Meader was an individual champ for the Hawks, taking the title at 160-170lbs. The Golden Hawk girls will be joined today in Wilton by Anamosa, Bettendorf, Columbus, English Valleys, Fairfield, Iowa City West, Monticello, Mount Pleasant, Muscatine, North Cedar, North Scott, Northeast Goose Lake, Solon, Tipton, West Liberty, Williamsburg and the Beavers. Their tournament starts at 9:30 this morning and continues all day at Wilton High School.
