With heavy snow and ice predicted for the KCII-listening area through tonight, residents are reminded to take safety precautions and keep their city’s snow ordinance in mind.

Travel is not advised by the National Weather Service Quad Cities Office as today’s evening commute and tomorrow’s morning commute may be affected by the winter storm that’s predicted to bring several inches of snow to southeast Iowa. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen says if you have to drive, make sure to have your winter emergency kit packed, among other precautions, “Be sure you have a full tank a gas and don’t let it get too far down, because if you get behind an accident or the roads just gets bad and the highway gets shut down, you want your tank to be full so that when you can go again you can actually go and that you’ve got gas in the car to help keep yourself warm until you’re able to go.”

Reisen also urges residents to clean off all the snow and ice from your vehicle before you get on the road. Washington Mayor Jaron Rosien also reminds residents of the city’s ordinance which states that no vehicle shall park on public property for more than 24 hours. He asks that residents move vehicles off of public streets and roadways to assist in any snow removal procedures.
