The City of Washington wants to remind property owners of their ordinance for snow and ice removal.
The ordinance states that the property owner and/or occupant of any building shall clear the public sidewalk of all snow or ice accumulation within 24 hours after snow has ceased to fall or ice has formed. If the person responsible fails to do so, the City may perform the removal and levy the cost of removal against the property owner.
Code Enforcement Officer Elaine Jennings also reminds property owners and snow removal contractors that it is unlawful to move any snow or ice onto a public street, right of way, alley, or sidewalk. Anyone with questions about snow removal in the City of Washington can call 319-653-6584 ext. 133.
