The holiday break is over and area girls’ basketball teams hit the hardwood tonight to start the New Year when Sigourney hosts Winfield-Mt. Union for a non-conference showdown.
The Wolves are coming off of an undefeated first half with a 9-0 record including four wins decided by single digits. Bradie Buffington has come off the bench to lead the offense with 9.2 points a night and Farrah Nelson hauls in seven rebounds a game. WMU brings in 25.3 defensive rebounds a contest to rank first in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference. The Savages sit at 5-2 and most recently defeated Lone Tree 46-33 on December 21st. Kaylee Weber has been a force averaging 17.7 points and 10.7 rebounds. These two programs have met up just once in the last decade with Sigourney scoring a 41-17 victory in February of 2019.
The area matchup gets underway at 7:30 p.m. this evening in Sigourney.
