The community support for those who were involved in the January 4th home explosion in Washington continues with a promotion being held by the local Pizza Hut today.
The restaurant is donating 20% of the day’s total sales Tuesday toward the survivor of the explosion and his family, as well as a $250 matching gift. Renee Guy is one of several community members that has facilitated donations for the young boy who lost his home and uncle in the explosion, and she says that the people at Pizza Hut reached out to her with the idea of a fundraiser. Resident Kelley Thomas shares some other acts of kindness from the last couple weeks, “What we’ve actually received, there’s been a lot of clothing items that have been donated, which is awesome and gift cards and monetary donations that have come in. So it’s neat to see the community come together to be able to do that and give to a family that was in need. A lot of the monetary donations have come in anonymously and it’s pretty neat that people are willing to give and expecting nothing in return.”
Those who wish to donate or provide any assistance to the boy affected can contact Angie Goodwin at the YMCA of Washington County. You can also hear more from Goodwin, Guy, and Thomas about their fundraising in a two-part Halcyon House Washington Page beginning today on air and at kciiradio.com.
