The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team will be on their home mat for the final time this season tonight when they welcome Wilton, West Liberty and Durant to Tim Grady Gymnasium for a Senior Night RVC quadrangular. The Golden Hawks come into the night with an overall record of 11-8 after sweeping a quad at Anamosa last week, taking out Northeast, Cascade and the Blue Raiders. The Hawks also finished as team runners-up at WACO on Saturday, led by three champions with Cael Garvey at 195, Josh Wallington at 220 and Gannon Callahan at 285 all taking titles. Wallington’s 30-2 overall record leads Mid-Prairie this year while Mose Yoder, Ben Meader, Garvey, and Callahan all have 25 wins or more. Mid-Prairie will honor seniors Vinnie Bowlin, Dominic McCain, Meader, Gibson Lowenberg, Wallington and Michael Kelly. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Justin Garvey talked about this senior class. “Every year it’s something special, and it feels like you don’t realize it until the year is about halfway done. Some of these guys have been wrestling for a long time. This senior class I have gotten pretty close to, even moreso because my kids are involved, so I see them not just in practice and during the year, but out of season too. It’s going to be fun to be able to have a Senior Night event. The High School has opened it up to four spectators per athlete plus siblings so we should have a bigger crowd there and we will be able to hold a typical Senior Night send off for them. It will be a couple of difficult duals, but I think our guys are up to the challenge.”

Wilton comes into the night with a dual mark of 16-1 on the season. The Beavers swept a quad with Bellevue, Monticello and Tipton last week. According to thepredicament.com, Wilton has two wrestlers in their lineup in the latest class 1A poll with freshman Brody Brisker No. 5 at 106lbs and senior Kael Brisker No. 2 at 132lbs. These two teams met earlier this season with the Beavers taking a 57-22 win.

West Liberty enters action with a 10-2 record on the season. The Comets were last in action at Lisbon on the 12th where they split a triangular, beating New London and falling to the Lions. The Comets have two ranked wrestlers in their lineup with senior Alex Beaver No. 10 at 120lbs and senior Kobe Simon No. 2 at 220lbs. West Liberty beat Mid-Prairie last season 42-36.

Durant comes into the night with a record of 4-8 on the year. The Wildcats split a triangular at home last Thursday, getting a win over Northeast before losing to Regina. Mid-Prairie beat the Wildcats 60-24 last season. Action begins at 5:30 tonight at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.
