Mid-Prairie High School large group speech students will enter district competition tonight (January 22).
However, Speech Coach Christy Meader says COVID-19 safety concerns mean changes in how the contest is conducted, “In a normal year, we would go to a different school for this contest, but during the pandemic we opted to hire a judge to come and observe and to judge our district contest at our school and that’s also how we’re going to conduct the rest of our contests and just have the judges come to us and our school only.”
Meader says they’ll approach the districts like a Mid-Prairie sporting event with the same attendance requirements recently approved by the school board: four tickets per participant, coach, and student manager, while also allowing siblings to come. She says students will perform in nine different categories and they will know tonight who will advance to the state contest February 6th.
