District 39 State Senator Kevin Kinney (D) of Oxford says he’ll seek legislation to give financial support to Iowa’s food banks which have seen a surge in need during the pandemic.
Kinney says he hopes to see movement on this issue this week, “We’re talking a lot about food insecurity and so forth that our food banks are finding that they are being overrun basically, that they’re having a hard time keeping up with the needs of people who are unemployed and that are food insecure. And we’re finding that there (are many) people that are using this for the first time.”
Kinney says the legislation would call for a one-time financial assistance for food banks, and he’d like to see the money come from the state’s unspent balance.
