A pickup truck collided with an Iowa Department of Transportation plow truck Tuesday afternoon southwest of Keota.

According to Iowa State Patrol, at 12:57 p.m. 73-year-old William Allen Simmons of Washington was driving a Ford Ranger east on Highway 92 while 50-year-old Michael Dean Rees of Crawfordsville was driving a DOT truck eastbound actively clearing snow with warning equipment activated. As Simmons attempted passing the plow truck near 330th Avenue he lost control on the snow and slid into the truck’s path. The DOT truck struck the rear quarter panel of the pickup, pushing it into the ditch. The pickup landed on its driver’s side facing west. Both drivers were uninjured, and $5,000 damage was estimated to the pickup with none estimated to the plow truck. Simmons was cited for failure to maintain control. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Keota Fire Department also responded to the scene.
