The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team finished the dual regular season Thursday night in Tiffin at Clear Creek Amana High School, splitting a pair of duals. Mid-Prairie opened the night with a win over the Clippers on their home mat 42-33. The Golden Hawks got wins in contested matches from Malachai Sexton at 106, Owen Trimpe at 152, Vinnie Bowlin at 160, Kaden Meader at 170, Cael Garvey at 195, Josh Wallington at 220 and Gannon Callahan at 285, all by fall.

In the nightcap, the Hawks were beaten 48-36 by Central DeWitt. Mid-Prairie had wins in contested matches from Malachai Sexton at 106, Vinnie Bowlin at 160, Cael Garvey at 195, Josh Wallington at 220, and Gannon Callahan at 285 all by fall. Garvey’s win in the dual was the 100th of his career. After the meet, Mid-Prairie head coach Justin Garvey talked about his son’s 100th win and his team’s night. “We were short Ben Meader tonight, and when you take a guy like that out of your lineup you know that everyone else has to step up. We got that tonight. Vinnie Bowlin and Kaden Meader at 160 and 170 started the first dual with falls, Cael Garvey at 195, Josh Wallington at 220, Gannon Callahan at heavyweight all had pins. Then you come back around to 106 and Malachai Sexton comes through for us in both duals tonight with pins. Owen Trimpe also got a big fall for us. All of the pieces came together for us against Clear Creek. This one is special for me because Cael is my son. A lot of hard work has gone into this and it’s something he should be super proud of. Early on, things didn’t come as easy to him. To get that 100th win his junior year before the end of the season is big.”

With the split, the Golden Hawks finish the dual season with a 13-11 record. They will be at Monticello Saturday for the River Valley Conference Championship meet.
