With just three conference games remaining, another crucial Southeast Conference matchup awaits the Washington basketball teams tonight when they battle Burlington.

The Demon girls (1-13) host the Grayhounds (0-11) and they look for the season sweep over the purple and gray. The lone Washington win came on January 4th when they opened the New Year with a 53-52 victory over Burlington on the strength of late free throws from Anna Nacos. The senior tallied 23 points in that game and averages 9.9 for the season. Alexis Standard dropped 20 that night for the Grayhounds and leads the group with 11.4 points a game.

The top two teams in the SEC battle in the boys’ game at Burlington. Having played two less games, the Grayhounds lead the pack with a 4-1 conference mark compared to the Demons’ 5-2 record. Mount Pleasant is currently in third at 4-3. These two squads also went down to the wire in the first meeting with Burlington (5-7) coming out on top 66-60. Washington (9-4) had a hard time stopping Michael Alexander in that one, as the senior had 23 points. Amarion Davis leads the team on the season with 13.5 points a night. Both schools are coming off losses with Washington falling to Mount Pleasant 55-52 last week and Burlington on the short end of a 75-64 affair against Clear Creek-Amana.

Both contests get underway at 7:45 p.m. tonight. Listen to the girls’ game on FM 106.1 KCII starting around 7:15 p.m.
