The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team hung with No. 3 in class 3A Monticello for a half on Thursday, but the Panthers ultimately pulled away for a 48-29 River Valley Conference win on their home floor. Monticello led 8-7 after the first quarter and 25-21 at half. The Panthers turned up the heat on defense in the second half, giving up just eight total points to the Golden Hawks including a 13-3 run that lasted the entire third quarter to grow their lead to 14. Mid-Prairie shot just 32% from the floor in the loss to go along with 15 turnovers in the tough night offensively. The Hawks outrebounded the Panthers by four. Tate Petersen and Preston Ries led Monticello with 12 points each. Carter Harmsen led Mid-Prairie with 15. With the loss, Mid-Prairie fell to 8-5 on the year. Monticello stayed perfect at 13-0.
