Sigourney girls’ basketball fans witnessed a 32-minute nail biting South Iowa Cedar League matchup on Monday with the Savages ending the night on the right side of a 43-42 affair at North Mahaska.

The Savages trailed 22-20 at the break, but a 13-6 third quarter gave them a five point advantage heading to the fourth where they hung on in the final minute. Kaylee Weber added another double-double to her resume with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Carly Goodwin chipped in with 10 points. The Warhawks (12-3) were abysmal from long range just making one of 18 threes in the contest. Sigourney improved to 15-3.

The Savage boys could never keep pace with the high scoring Warhawks (13-3) in a 74-42 loss. A 17-10 North Mahaska lead after one was extended to 40-19 at the break and the Savages never threatened after that. Braden Steel led the Warhawks with 20 points. Sigourney shot just 26% from the floor with Josh Mohr leading the way registering 12 points and Levi Crawford added 10. The Savages dropped to 8-9 after the loss.
