Riverside residents are eager to help with planning a new community center.
City Administrator Christine Yancey says over 60 people who responded to the survey about the need for the center also expressed interest in serving on the planning committee, “So, we’re going to send out a second survey to those who gave us their contact information and whittle it down to 10 to 15 people, but then try to find other things for those not chosen to be on the committee has an opportunity to help serve whether it’s for fundraising. There are plenty of things that need to happen before the community center is actually built.”
Yancey says they hope to have committee members selected by the end of February, then they’ll start meetings on what amenities might be part of the community center design and what funds will be available to make those features possible. She says it could be two to four months before a recommendation is presented to the city council which would then submit a request for proposals from potential architects for the final design.
