The second to last Southeast Conference game of the winter is tonight for the Washington basketball teams when they face off with Fort Madison for the second time this season.

The Washington girls will have their hands full with a Bloodhound squad that sits atop of the league with a 7-1 mark and 14-1 overall. The crimson and black have one of the top players in the conference in Malarie Ross, as the junior knocks down 44% of her threes and produces 21 points a game. The Demons are 2-14, 2-6 in the league, and seek a bounce back night after a 52-25 setback to Mid-Prairie on Monday. Anna Nacos registers 9.9 points a contest and Alex Murphy brings in 6.3 rebounds. These two squads met on December 22nd with the Bloodhounds capturing a 55-41 victory.

The Demon boys could clinch at least a share of the SEC crown with a win at Fort Madison. They sit at 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the league compared to the Bloodhounds’ 7-8 record and 3-5 in conference. Washington got out to a fast start Monday in a 59-46 win over Mid-Prairie. Ethan Patterson hit four triples in that game and leads the pack with 15.6 points a night. Fort Madison’s Dayton Davis does a bulk of the offensive work with 15.7 points and 11.4 boards a night. Washington has won the last six in the series including a come from behind 58-55 win in the first meeting of the season. Head Coach Collin Stark tells KCII Sports they will have to do a better job of attacking the press this time around. “Their identity is a 1-2-2 press coming back to a 2-3-zone. Davis is really long and is the top of that press. We need to do a better job of attacking the press and we can’t settle in the half court.”

Both games get underway at 7:45 p.m. this evening. Listen to the play-by-play of the girls on FM 106.1 KCII.
