Agriculture service providers and consultants interested in providing more support to Iowa’s organic farmers are invited to a virtual workshop in Kalona.

The free “Growing Organic Expertise in Iowa” regional event is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 16th on Zoom and is hosted by the Iowa Organic Association. Field Organizer Olga Reding says organic farming is the fastest-growing segment of the state’s agriculture industry, “Currently, Iowa ranks sixth in the United States and represents five percent of the nation’s certified organic farms, yet, less than one percent of Iowa’s agriculture production is organic.”

Reding says consumers interested in learning more about Iowa’s organic farming products are also welcome to attend the workshop. Among the presenters is Kim Anderson who operates an organic blueberry farm near Brighton. No pre-registration is required, but an RSVP is preferred for a head count. You can find the link to the workshop here.
