The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams made two separate trips for River Valley Conference contests Saturday. The Mid-Prairie boys made their way to West Liberty and returned with a 68-45 victory. The first half was tight with the Hawks up just 15-12 after one quarter and 32-29 at half. Mid-Prairie found separation after the break outscoring the Comets 36-16 in the second half, including 22-7 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win. Mid-Prairie shot 51% in the game, outrebounded the Comets by 16, had 19 assists and forced 17 turnovers. Carter Harmsen finished with a 29 point, 12 rebound double double. Alex Bean also got to double figures with 17 points. Chance Thrasher and Caleb Wulf each had 12 for West Liberty. With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 11-6 on the season.

The Golden Hawk girls had a tough time at Iowa City Regina, falling 65-32. The Regals took command from the opening tip, starting the game on a 17-4 run that lasted the entire first quarter. They led 32-9 at the halftime break and Mid-Prairie wasn’t able to make a push in the second stanza. Mid-Prairie was outrebounded by 19 and committed 23 turnovers. Lily Simpson led a trio of Regals in double figures with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Grace Gaarde had 17 points and Annie Gahan 16. Maddie Nonnenmann led Mid-Prairie with 11 points. The Mid-Prairie girls are now 9-10 overall.
