The WACO Warrior boys and girls basketball teams made a road trip to Donnellson to take on Central Lee Monday. The WACO boys turned it into a business trip, scoring a 68-62 win over the Hawks. The Warriors trailed early, down 20-15 after the first quarter and 35-31 at half. WACO put together a strong second half, erasing the deficit in the third quarter and posting 21 points in the final frame to hold off Central Lee. WACO shot 51% for the game including six of 10 from long range and 18 of 22 at the line. The Warriors outrebounded Central Lee by 14, and dished out 20 assists. Simeon Reichenback had a team high 19 points, Hunter Hughes got to double figures with 16. The WACO boys are now 3-17.
The Warrior girls fell by a 65-53 count. Central Lee used a big first half to jump out to a lead, up 19-11 after the first quarter and 40-25 at half. Down 19 going to the fourth, WACO outscored the Hawks 19-12 in the final quarter but it wasn’t enough. Morgan Graber led a trio of Warriors in double figures with 17 points, Ellah Kissell had 15 and Molly McLaughlin 11. WACO is now 7-12 on the season.
