Riverside residents could see their water and sewer rates go up.

The city council discussed a possible rate increase at their meeting Monday. City Administrator Christine Yancey says any change will come out of necessity, “We just can’t sustain the program as we have outlined it for any kind of updates based on the revenues that we have right now. How long could we sustain it? It could be two to three years.”

Yancey says any rate increases would be done gradually to make it “less painful” to residents. She says the city will gather information in the next month or so to determine by how much, when and if rates will increase. Yancey says residents currently pay a $12 base rate, then $6 per 1000 gallons of water up to 50,000 gallons and anything over that is $8 per 1000 gallons.
