A tractor was destroyed in a fire about four miles south of Brighton Wednesday.

Brighton Fire Chief Bill Farmer says they were called to 1250 Germanville Road shortly after 6 p.m. to discover smoke coming from a machine shed. He says efforts to enter the structure were hampered as both of the building’s entrances were frozen shut. Farmer says they had to cut through the east doors before extinguishing the fire which was contained mostly to a diesel tractor.

Farmer says a block heater plugged into the tractor appeared to have malfunctioned causing the fire and completely destroying the diesel tractor. He says the tire of another tractor was burned off, but the building was not damaged by the fire. No injuries were reported. Brighton QRS and the Fairfield and Lockridge fire departments also responded to the scene.
