State tournament dreams are on the line today at Mount Pleassant High School for area class 2A wrestlers at the district tournament.
The Washington Demons will send Ayden Frazer into the fray at 182lbs with his 18-6 record. He will meet Mid-Prairie’s Ben Meader in the opening round with 33-9 mark on the season. Also in the bracket are Clayton Young of Eddvyille-Blakesburg with a 17-15 record and John Argo of Davenport Assumption who is ranked ninth at 27-5.
Mid-Prairie has a school record tying six competitors vying for a spot in Des Moines today. Along with Meader at 182lbs is Mose Yoder at 113lbs. Yoder and his 26-13 record are paired with Columbus Wildcat Lane Scorpil to open the tournament. Scorpil has a 35-1 record and is currently ranked No. 2 in the state according to thepredicament.com. He is one of three Wildcats competing at Mount Pleasant today. Vinnie Bowlin with his 12-0 record will be on the mat for Mid-Prairie at 160lbs. He will meet River Belger of West Burlington Notre Dame/Danville. On the other side of the bracket are 18-9 Kyler Ricard of Eddyville-Blakesburg and 17-3 No. 5 Allen Catour of Davenport Assumption. At 195lbs Mid-Prairie’s Cael Garvey comes in with a 32-3 record to face Columbus’ Ethan Palmer with a 3-3 record. The other side features 19-2 and sixth ranked Aiden Morgan of Davenport Assumption and 11-23 Josh Oldfield of Centerville. At 220lbs, Josh Wallington comes in at 36-3 for the Golden Hawks he will meet 7-4 Chase Diaz of Davenport Assumption in the opener. On the other side is 30-5 Paul Ballard of Albia and 22-12 Sam Carrasco of Mount Pleasant. At 285lbs Mid-Prairie’s Gannon Callahan enters with a record of 32-4 to take on Jordan Salyers of Keokuk at 10-13. The other side features 34-3 and ninth ranked Chance Malone of Columbus and 16-10 Skyler Young of Eddyville-Blakesburg.
First and second place finishers at the meet in each weight class advance to the state tournament in Des Moines.
