It was a heartbreaking end to the winter for the Lone Tree boys’ basketball team on Friday when they traveled to Springville for a class 1A district opener with Cedar Valley Christian and fell 53-45 in overtime.

The Lions threw the first punch with a 14-9 lead after one by attacking the rim. The Huskies switched to a 2-3-zone and it slowed down a Lone Tree team that saw themselves trailing 26-21 at half. The Lions battled back to even it up, but missed an opportunity at the buzzer to win the game in regulation with the score tied at 42 all. The Huskies got a big three early in overtime that paved the way to an 11-3 advantage in the extra four minutes. The free throw line was a Lion enemy where they made only 11 of their 26 attempts on the night. Cade Shield led the way with 11 points, Alex Viner added eight, and Tyler Bell hauled in 10 rebounds.

Lone Tree closes the season 2-17 and they bid farewell to five seniors in Viner, Nick Floyd, Shane Zaruba, Aiden Forbes, and Zach Dominquez.
